“I think what drives me is an awareness of the essential loneliness of man – we are alone when we’re born, we’re alone when we die – and it’s that fundamental quality of isolation, together with feelings of love, that compels me to use the camera the way I do. Although I never wanted to change the world with photography, I did want to change myself, and I used it as a vehicle to uncover feelings that were buried deep within me.”
